Garbsen – media pedagogue gives a lecture for parents of primary school children at the invitation of the city of Garbsen.
The city of Garbsen invites mothers and fathers with children of primary school age to a special online parents’ evening. The well-known media educator Moritz Becker from the Smiley Association will give a lecture on the current topic on Thursday, June 24th, starting at 8 pm, under the title “Whatsapp, Instagram and Snapchat: What is it that concerns us parents?” Participation in the event, which is offered via the video conference tool Edudip, is free of charge. The primary school secretariats are accepting registrations by email with immediate effect.
Children come into contact with social media earlier and earlier. It is therefore important that parents are prepared to be able to accompany them. The media offer is constantly changing. While there was talk of Facebook yesterday, today many parents are wondering what Snapchat or TikTok is. It is a mystery to you how some children get over 1,500 messages on Whatsapp and Snapchat every day. In order to be able to assess media behavior one has to understand why some users let others participate in their life on social networks without regard to their own privacy. In order to recognize problematic behavior, one must be able to realistically assess phenomena such as cyberbullying with their causes and effects.
In the online event, Becker presents the media use of primary school children in a very comprehensible, sometimes thoughtful, but also entertaining way and gives support in (media) education and arguments for at home. His colleague Ralf Willius will oversee the chat during the event so that the audience can be directly involved and there is then the opportunity to join the discussion.
After registering at the respective primary schools in Garbsen, the participants will receive their access link. The parents’ evening takes place in cooperation with the city of Hemmingen. If you have any questions, Birgit Schrader from the education agency can be reached on (0 51 31) 70 75 76.
