Lionel Messi is usually seen as the quieter guy. Nevertheless, even the seven-time world footballer can lose his composure. His team-mate Leandro Paredes has now reported on an incident where Messi seemed about to charge at him.
Paris Saint-Germain and FC Barcelona met in the round of 16 of the 2020/2021 Champions League season. Lionel Messi was still at Barca at the time, Leandro Paredes was already playing for PSG. And the French ensured that FC Barcelona went down 4-1 at the Camp Nou. Because Paredes addressed words to his PSG colleagues that Messi obviously didn’t like, the latter lost his nerve.

Paredes now explained in an interview with black box: “He was angry because I made that comment to my teammates. He got really angry, it was bad. He wanted to kill me and I wanted to go home.” A little later, Paredes and Messi met again for the Argentina national team “and he just acted like nothing had happened”. The two have also been teammates at Paris Saint-Germain since the summer of 2021, with Messi joining PSG after leaving FC Barcelona. “When we talk about it today, we laugh about it. But at the time he was pissed off – he wanted to kill me!” Paredes said.
