In 2021, the Staps license (sciences and techniques of physical and sports activities) was the subject of 180,000 wishes. The reform of the LAS Staps is one of the reasons for the success of this training where the love of sport is not the only expected.

For who?

Open to general and technological baccalaureate holders, the Staps license combines scientific teaching, written expression and sports skills. Although not obligatory, the lessons of specialties to privilege its physical education, sports practices and cultures, mathematics, sciences and life of the earth, humanities, literatures and philosophy, economic and social sciences, and history-geography, geopolitics and political sciences. Contrary to popular belief, physical and sporting practices only represent a quarter of the program, so it is better not to bet everything on its sporting qualities.

How to integrate a Staps license?

Scientific, literary, sporting skills, as well as an associative investment and collective responsibilities are the main expected to integrate a Staps license. In addition to the school record and the motivated training project, the candidate must provide proof of his civic and/or associative commitments as well as proof of his sporting level. In order to help candidates in their choice, the UFR Staps have created a self-positioning test (apLLy). Particularly in tension, the sector favors candidates from the academy. It is nevertheless possible to change the academy depending on the options available, to be chosen in L2. Since the reform of health studies, the Staps option Health Access (LAS) license is particularly popular, especially for candidates who are destined for the profession of physiotherapist. At the start of the next school year, the paramedical professions will also be concerned: the Staps license will undoubtedly be more and more in demand and the selection will become tougher.

What is the program?

The first year is devoted to the common core. On the program: life sciences, human sciences, lessons in physical sports and artistic activities, cross-disciplinary lessons (French expression, English, project management, IT, etc.). In the 2nd year, students move towards a specialty: Apas (adapted physical activity and health) for those who aim for the field of health or prevention through physical activity, Education and motricity which targets the teaching of activities physical and sports, Sports training to train professionals in training, animation as well as sports executives of federations and associations, ergonomics and motor performance, for those who wish to work on improving sports equipment, comfort and performance optimization, and finally sports management, for those who intend to manage and manage, organize sports events or market products and services related to sport.

And after the license?

The Staps license – and this is undoubtedly the reason for its great success with young people – leads to many and varied professions, accessible directly after the license or after a specialized master’s degree. Sports educator, mountain guide, physical trainer, designer of sports equipment, sports journalist, sports event project manager,… Those who wish to become teachers will then integrate a MEEF master’s degree (teaching, education and training) to pass the Capeps competition. Finally, health professions are also accessible to students enrolled in LAS Staps, who can then apply for a maximum of two health courses during the three years, provided they have never applied before.
