[헤럴드경제=장연주 기자] It was revealed that a woman living in the United States wore boots she purchased for $12 (16,000 won) from the Chinese online shopping app Temu, but her feet became paralyzed and she was taken to the hospital. The woman reportedly suffered 14 stitches, millions of won in hospital bills, and severe scarring.
According to the New York Post on the 15th (local time), Leanne Marley, a nurse in her 40s living in Florida, USA, received black winter boots as a gift from her mother. His mother bought these boots from Temu for $12, but she gave them to her daughter because they were the wrong size.
Mr. Marley said, “I wore the shoes 2-3 times, and each time, I always felt like something was stabbing me on the side of my foot. I thought it was just a sticker or a laundry tag.”
Then, on December 19th last year, when he put these boots back on, his foot was torn by a sharp hole inside the right boot. In the end, he was immediately taken to a local hospital with his feet paralyzed and required 14 stitches.
If you look at the photo that Mr. Marley posted on social media, you can see a long, terrible wound with stitches from his toes to his ankle. “My feet were full of blood,” said Marley. “Normally shoes would have been covered with sharp holes, but they were cut roughly, like razor blades.”

Moreover, he reportedly quit his job due to this injury.
Mr. Marley claimed, “After getting insurance, I paid about $2,200 in medical bills. The stitches were removed after two weeks, but the scar will remain for life and is also affecting my standing posture.”
He said, “If you have these shoes from Temu, throw them away. “I will never shop at Temu again.”
What’s even more absurd is Temu’s way of handling it.
After this accident, Mali’s mother complained to Temu and sent a refund message. She also requested that the product be removed from her website to prevent a recurrence.
However, no action was taken because I couldn’t find the invoice number I was asked to send, and I lost the order number and couldn’t find it.
After the incident was later reported, Temu released a statement saying, “After reviewing the screenshots and other information provided, we have identified and removed the shoe listing as a precautionary measure.”
Meanwhile, Temu, which promotes ‘ultra-low prices’, attracted nearly 2.65 million users in Korea in about 4 months after its launch in July of last year.
