Paralyzed Face After Sinovac Vaccination Occurs in Singapore

Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaSingapore reports side effects of CoronaVac Covid-19 vaccine.

The Sinovac vaccine is said to have a side effect of facial paralysis or commonly known as Bell’s Palsy.

Quoted from Channel News Asia, the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) of Singapore noted that there were 5 reports of suspected serious side effects of the Sinovac vaccine. One of them is the Bell’s Palsy incident report.

“Overall, serious side effects from the Sinovac vaccine will continue to be observed after vaccination,” the HSA said.

Reported by detikHealth, Bell’s Palsy is a condition of sudden paralysis of the facial muscles. This condition is only temporary and can be recovered with proper treatment.

Although the exact cause of Bell’s Palsy is not known, it is believed that this condition can occur due to swelling and inflammation of the nerves that control the muscles in the face.

The occurrence of Bell’s Palsy in COVID-19 vaccination is very rare. However, a study in Hong Kong found a risk of Bell’s Palsy in Sinovac vaccine recipients.

“Our study shows a small increase in the risk of Bell’s palsy associated with the CoronaVac vaccination. However, Bell’s palsy remains a rare adverse event, mostly temporary,” said researcher Chi Kei Wong, PhD, of the University of Hong Kong. .
