Arnošt Petráček is at the Paralympic Games for the fourth time in a row. He was the only one of the previous ones to bring a gold medal from the Czech team. He left for Tokyo with the ambition to repeat the success, but he did not succeed.

After a successful heat, in which he broke the Paralympic record, he found a conqueror in the Russian racer Roman Ždan in the final. He won the world record in the S4 category in the 50 meter race in the world record of 40.99 seconds. Arny, as everyone calls him, was only 27 hundredths behind.

Petráček won the eighth medal for the Czech team. At the moment, it is one more precious metal than the athletes brought from the Paralympics in Rio.

Petráček has a congenital defect of the upper and lower limbs. The lower limbs are dislocated of the knee joints and the upper limbs lack the humerus. He has been swimming since he was a child, and he does the sport – just like the Olympians – full time.
–
“I do it full time. When I talked to Jíra Prskavec or Lukáš Krpálek a few years ago, we agreed that we had absolutely the same preparation. That we put the same strength into it, “he said recently in conversation for Message List. “In our country, as with the Paralympians, it is also necessary to have personal escorts and coaches with us, because we cannot do it ourselves at races. We need more service and we need more help than the Olympians. These things, if they fit together, can have a beautiful result. Not only in sports, but also in personal life. “
