The Paralympic Flame will shine in the territory of Chartres (Eure-et-Loir) and its agglomeration Chartres metropolis the August 26, 2024.
A passage into Eurelian lands revealed this Friday November 10, 2023 by the Organizing Committee for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Paralympic Games kick off
“Chartres and Chartres Métropole are proud to announce their presence among the relay territories, and their hosting of the celebrations ahead of the Paralympic Games” communicate the two local authorities.
The Paralympic Torch Relay will kick off the first Summer Paralympic Games in France. For the first time in its history, France will host the Summer Paralympic Games on its territory. from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
In order to prepare the public to celebrate them, “the Paralympic Flame will arrive in France on August 25, 2024 to four days of relay of great intensity in around fifty towns in all regions of France” rejoices Chartres Métropole.
The Paralympic Torch Relay will thus mark the start of the Paralympic Games celebrations, revive the spirit of the party and raise the public clamor before the Games.
Launch in Great Britain
The Paralympic Flame will be lit in Britainin Stoke Mandeville, cradle of Paralympic sport, before reaching France via the Channel Tunnel for a historic relay.
Twenty-four English athletes will symbolically begin crossing the Channel Tunnel and will be joined halfway between the United Kingdom and France by twenty-four French athletes to pass on the Flame and the energy of the Games .
Twelve Flames will shine simultaneously
Unlike the Olympic Flame, several Paralympic Flames can shine simultaneously, a singularity brought by the Paralympic movement.
This is how upon his arrival on the French coasts at Calaisthe Flame will divide into twelve Flames which will light up on the borders of Hexagon.
They will symbolize the energy of the twelve days of the first Summer Paralympic Games in France: the day of lighting the cauldron on August 28, 2024 and the eleven days of competition.
The Paralympic Torch Relay will be exceptionally intense. During the four days, the twelve Flames will each take their own path, converge simultaneously and will reunite in Paris.
They will meet residents from all regions of France to call on them to mobilize by relaying a message full of enthusiasm: “The Games are back!”.
The Paralympic Flame will officially arrive in the territory on August 26, 2024. The arrival of the Flame in Chartres will take place on the second day of Relay in France, when the twelve Flames will progress simultaneously through the heart of the regions.
Exceptional celebrations to welcome the Flame
Defined by Paris 2024 in close collaboration with the City of Chartres and Chartres Métropole, the Paralympic Torch Relay route is intended to be “high intensity for four days”.
The Torch Relay aims to “highlight the territory’s desire to promote inclusion in sport via para-sporting sections, as well as the history and heritage of Chartres and Chartres metropolis”.
We are very happy to welcome the Paralympic Flame, because the people of Chartrain will thus be able to participate in this great event of Paris 2024 in their own way. Chartres vibrates to the sporting rhythm thanks to its Terre de Jeux label, and its policy of access to voluntary sport and in all directions! Sport is a strong glue that makes our city shine.
Celebrations will be organized on the territory during the Relay day, which will be a real easy access for all residents. On this occasion, activities and introductions to the practice of Para sport will be put in place for everyone.
The Scout Relay in Chartres and Chartres Métropole will be made up of “small and large human stories”.
The Paralympic Torch Relay will be a national collective adventure. On the roads of France, the passage of the Flame will be a moment of sharing between all those who will meet it and the 1000 bearers of the Flame who will have the honor of carrying it.
