Tomorrow is the first day of the competition program at the 17th Paralympic Games with eight Greek participations in the program in three different sports, according to information from the Hellenic Paralympic Committee.
The youngest athlete of the Greek delegation, 12-year-old Areti Arabela Spyridou (photo) will be the first from the Greek delegation to compete in the Paris Games. At 11:20 Greek time, he competes in the famous La Defense Arena and more specifically in the 2nd qualifying round (7th race) of the 100m backstroke S2. Two heats will be held and the eight fastest gymnasts will qualify for the final scheduled at 19:10.
At 12:38 in the waters of La Defense Arena, 154-year-old Maria Fanouria Tzivelekis will be swimming in the preliminaries of the 200m freestyle S5. Three qualifying heats will be held and the eight fastest will advance to the final. Tziveleki competes in the second series and the 2nd route and if she qualifies for the final she will compete at 21:46.
The first Greek participations in the final of the 17th Paralympic Games will be in the men’s 100m backstroke of the S1 category with Dimitris Karypides in route 2 and Nikolaos Kontou in route 7, claiming for Greece the first distinction in Paris.
Bocce is the second sport that starts for the Greek delegation tomorrow at the Arena of South Paris, with Chryssi Morphi Mezzou first entering the battle at 13:50 where for the first group of the BC4 category she will initially face Anamaria Arabasic (Croatia) and at 20:20 she will compete against the Spanish Sara Ager Mayo.
The second Greek participation in the bocce is that of Grigoris Polychronidis in the BC3 category and the 4th group, with ramp operator Katerina Patroni where he will face the French Gilles Menard (with ramp operator Christophe Menard).
The trio of Greek participations in bocce will close with Anna Dedda in the BC3 category, having ramp operator Christina Dedda, who for the 4th group will face Stefania Ferrato (Argentina) at 21:30.
The third sport with a representative of the Greek mission is that of archery with Dorothea Poimenidou competing at 18:00.
