Parallel imports of cars continue to fall. Thus, according to Otkritie Auto (the auto business unit of Otkritie Bank) and the Automarketer company, the volume of registrations of cars imported into Russia through parallel import channels in October decreased by 6% compared to September.
In general, the share of parallel imports at the end of October amounted to 10% of all registrations. This is the lowest figure since the beginning of the year. And in just 10 months of 2023, the share of such vehicles amounted to 13% of the total vehicle volume.
“The monthly volume of cars imported through parallel imports will continue to decline in the remaining months of 2023. And the share of such vehicles in the market volume will be set at 10%,” says Marina Dembitskaya, head of Otkritie Auto.
In the second month of autumn, cars of Japanese (34%), Korean (22%) and German brands (20%) were most often imported through an alternative channel. At the same time, the share of Chinese cars imported through an alternative channel is growing, despite the expansion of official sales. If in January the share of China brand registrations in the volume of parallel sales was less than 1%, then in October it was already 14%. In fifth place is the United States with a share of 5%.
In the structure of registrations in October among brands, Toyota again took the lead (minus 7% to September sales). Volkswagen took fourth place in October (plus 20%). The top five is closed by the Chinese brand Zeekr, which improved its performance by 12% over the month.
