Paraguayans abroad: hardworking, honest and ambitious

Asunción: Labor specialist and director of the Colorado Party’s employment bureau, Enrique López Arce, pointed out that he had conducted surveys both in the Paraguayan community residing in Spain and among contractors in the United States.

He further explained that this survey and consultation process has been going on for several years and started when he was a civil servant at the Department of Labour.

Arce pointed out that the interesting thing about all of these studies he has done is that they maintain the upscale concept of the Department of Labor. He explained that in more than 85% of the responses they received, she was described as honest, responsible, reliable and friendly to Paraguayans.

“Now the interesting thing is that the survey in Spain, specifically in Madrid, with some representatives of the Paraguayan community, the data shows us that according to official figures there are specifically 87,045 Paraguayans in Madrid and 1,179 have returned to Paraguay during the pandemic. Talking to them, they confirmed to me once again that Paraguayans are very popular because they are hard-working, honest and trustworthy,” reported Arce.

He pointed out, however, that interviews with the United States Radio Tribunal also confirmed that the labor situation in North America had improved. On the other hand, the situation in Spain has deteriorated.

Now, the warning from the Paraguayan community in Spain shows that for every flight going from Asuncion to Spain, there is one Paraguayan returning because the situation in the country is not favorable either.

“We don’t have official figures, but what people from the Paraguayan community in Madrid tell me in particular is that during the week one Paraguayan returns to Spain because things didn’t go well for them in Paraguay,” Arce said.

Regarding why the Paraguayan is more diligent and efficient in his job abroad than in Paraguay, López Arce pointed out that the first factor is a better salary.

“In Paraguay we have to improve, both in education and in people’s salaries. It should be understood that the economic development of a country is also seen through improving the quality of life of the people and it is evident that the quality of life in the United States and Spain is better than in Paraguay. When our economy is bad we will have more people migrating, but when the economy is good we will have people returning,” Arce concluded.
