Ciudad Juárez (Mexico), Sep 10 (EFE) .- Paraguayan Gustavo Velázquez scored this Friday the goal with which Juárez FC defeated champion Cruz Azul 2-1 at home on the eighth day of the 2021 Apertura soccer tournament Mexican.
The Argentine Lucas Passerini advanced to the celestial ones, but the Spanish Pol García and Velázquez discounted for Juárez, who achieved their first victory of the tournament.
The result allowed Brazilian coach Ricardo Ferretti’s Juárez to emerge from the bottom of the standings and move up to 17th place with five points. Cruz Azul remained in the seventh step of the table.
Cruz Azul opened the scoring with four minutes. The Argentine Guillermo Fernández received a pass filtered by the right wing and put a stroke to the area that Passerini transformed into the 0-1.
The advantage relaxed ‘La Maquina’, who gave control of the ball to a Juárez who at 18 sent the first warning with a shot from Alberto Acosta that was sent to a corner kick by goalkeeper Andrés Gudiño.
The person in charge of collecting the ball stopped on the left was the Ecuadorian Jefferson Intriago with an assist that allowed García to convert with the head from 1-1 to 19.
After the equalizer, Cruz Azul tried to regain prominence on the field, however Juárez got the same. Argentine Matías García launched a free kick because Velázquez finished off with a header that at 35 decreed 2-1.
Juárez did not lower the intensity at the beginning of the second half and at 50 Intriago finished off a ball in the area that Gudiño rejected.
After that, the game got dirty with fouls that caused warnings for Hugo González, José Esquivel and García, from Juárez, and Fernández and Alexis Peña, from Cruz Azul.
In another result, Tijuana beat Santos Laguna 2-1 with a penalty scored by Miguel Sansores in added time.
Earlier, the Paraguayan Adam Bareiro converted a penalty in the discount that allowed San Luis to rescue a 2-2 draw at Puebla’s home.
The day will resume on Saturday with the visit from Monterrey by coach Javier Aguirre to Atlas, from León to Tigres UANL and from Mazatlán by Spanish strategist Beñat San José to leader America by Argentine coach Santiago Solari.
