(CNN Español) — The Paraguayan Minister of Health, Julio Borba, said on Wednesday that they will start the vaccination plan against covid-19 for healthy minors between 12 and 17 years old. In addition, the official expressed at the meeting of the Council of Ministers that it is expected that by the end of the year, when the arrival of more vaccines is expected, they can expand the range from 6 years.
Borba also stressed that the process will begin to apply the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine to people over 50 years of age, immunosuppressed and medical personnel.
The minister did not specify the start date of both plans nor did he specify which vaccines will be applied to these groups.
Borba also reported that to date there are AstraZencea, Pfizer and Sinovac vaccines available, and that 300,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine are expected to arrive in the next few days. He reported that, in total, 2,848 have been applied to the population. 161 first doses and 2,018,427 second doses.
Although the health authorities indicate that the second doses “are assured” there is concern about the rate of vaccination in the population. “The strengthening of the vaccination campaign is something that worries us, since we have vaccines and people are not approaching with the speed with which they did previously. We do not have a regular vaccination rate to which we are accustomed,” said Borba.
The government decreed that, as of this Wednesday, the mobility restriction throughout the country will be gradually eliminated due to the decrease in cases, hospitalizations and deaths from coronavirus.
As of this Wednesday, Paraguay reports 460,244 cases of coronavirus and 16,207 deaths from causes related to the virus, according to the Ministry of Health.
