The National Service for Animal Quality and Health (Senacsa) reported that it received authorization from the Veterinary and Animal Health Service (IVSAH, in English) of the State of Israel for the sale of Paraguayan-produced bone-in meat to this country. The authorization was given after the evaluations carried out by the Israelis and the certification of Paraguay as a country free of foot and mouth disease with vaccination before the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO).
“This authorization by Israel represents a historic fact for Paraguay, since it implies the full recognition of its health status and, in turn, constitutes a great opportunity to expand export possibilities of more meat products, leaving as a precedent relevant for access to other markets for this type of products,” says the statement released yesterday by Senacsa.
Israel was already among the more than 50 markets enabled for Paraguayan meat and was even positioned in 2023 as the fifth destination for local protein. It is now accredited for the sale of bone-in meat to Israel.
According to Senacsa data, from January to December 2023, 10,037,836 kilograms of beef were exported to Israel, representing a foreign exchange earning of USD 55,849,073.
Meanwhile, in offal, Israel ranks as Paraguay’s fourteenth buyer, with 604,763 kilos shipped for USD 1,424,975.
Historical. José Carlos Martín, president of Senacsa, described the fact as historic and argued that, in addition to Paraguay, Uruguay also received the accreditation of Israel.
At the same time, he highlighted that this is a sign of confidence on the part of that country in our system and that it can be a door to opening its market to Paraguayan sheep meat.
“The possibility of exporting sheep meat also opens up, since in sheep the noble cuts are the cuts with bone. 95% of the meat exported from sheep in the world is bone-in meat,” stated the head of Senacsa, who was very happy with this achievement for Paraguayan meat.
Uruguay received the Israeli permission on January 8
The Argentine press highlighted that Uruguay was the first Latin American country to receive authorization from the State of Israel for the export of bone-in sheep and beef to this country. “This is a historic event in the beef market. Israel, a very strict country when it comes to controlling the health of the food it imports, accepts bone-in sheep and beef from Uruguay for the first time. “This country, in terms of foot-and-mouth disease, has for some time maintained the health status of a country free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination,” indicates a publication. On January 8, Uruguay received authorization to export bone-in sheep and beef to Israel. To achieve this authorization, Uruguay, like Paraguay, had to send a detailed report containing health guarantees regarding the absence of the threat of foot and mouth disease in its herd, in addition to having the endorsement of the World Organization for Animal Health (WHO). ) as a country free of the disease with vaccination.
