Paraguay adds five deaths from the covid-19 pandemic

CORONAVIRUS PARAGUAY

Asunción, March 11 (EFE) .- Paraguay registered this Friday 5 deaths from covid-19 and 272 infections, according to the daily report of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare.

Of the 1,932 samples tested, 272 were positive. In this way, the total number of cases recorded since the first contagion by covid-19 in the country was registered on March 7, 2020.

So far, 18,522 people have lost their lives as a result of the disease.

The Government of Paraguay announced on February 22 that the decree that established the restrictions to contain the spread of the pandemic was rendered null and void and will not be extended, given a decline in the numbers of infections and deaths.

However, the requirement to wear a mask in closed places and to present the vaccination card to enter the country will remain in force.

Paraguay is facing its “third wave” of covid-19 after the consecutive increase in cases in several departments (provinces) in recent weeks, although this trend has begun to subside in recent days.

On January 10, Paraguay modified its entry requirements by requiring a negative PCR test from all foreigners who want to enter, with the exception of those who come from Mercosur (a block that also includes Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay) and neighboring countries.

In addition, the complete vaccination certificate is required from all visitors -except those who live in border cities-.

The health authorities announced this Friday that a total of 8,280,678 doses of the covid-19 vaccine have been administered in the country.

Of this total, 3,840,623 correspond to a first application, which represents a coverage of 52% of the population; another 3,259,724 are for the second dose (44%) and 1,180,331 for the third or booster (16%).
