Paragliders from Varna Conduct Dramatic New Year’s Rescue Operation

Paragliders from Varna welcomed the new year with a rescue operation. Their colleague Valery Kitanov fell with a paraglider on a rocky shore between Balchik and Kavarna on January 1 and was in distress for two days before he was found, BNT reported.

The man lost control in the air due to bad weather. He was found hypothermic, severely dehydrated and with broken legs, but is now in good condition.

The rescue operation began around midnight on January 2.

It becomes clear that the paraglider chose an inappropriate place to fly, landed in an emergency and at high speed due to the strong wind.

“He was in a deserted place, he was in trouble, if it was summer there would be a boat to see him, but in winter there was simply no one to see him,” said Stanislav Stoyanov – Slavi.

Valery Kitanov decides that he cannot get back in and walks to his car along the coast. He walks about 400 meters with broken legs, and gets to a place where he can be seen more easily.

The injured paraglider is in good condition, he will have surgery on his heel on Monday.
