Léon Schäfer won his second medal at the Para Athletics World Championships in Paris. Born in Hanover, he ran to bronze in the 100 m sprint in a personal best of 12.18 seconds. A week ago, the 26-year-old won gold in the long jump.
The winner of the last competition of the world championships in the French capital was Joel de Jong from the Netherlands with a world championship record time of 12.09 seconds. Silver went to Brazilian Vinicius Goncalves (12.16). Schäfer also won bronze in the sprint at the 2021 Paralympics in Tokyo.
“I’m definitely proud to have won the last medal,” said the athlete, who grew up in Bremen and competes for Bayer Leverkusen. After the long jump gold it was “definitely easier” for him. “The burden was off. I achieved what I wanted to achieve.”
The 26-year-old won the twelfth medal for the German Disabled Sports Association (DBS) – one more than at the previous World Championships in Dubai. The German athletes secured five gold medals in Paris, two silver medals and five bronze medals.
