Alexandra Cordero, granddaughter of Paquito Cordero (1932-2009), considered one of the pioneers of Puerto Rican television, presents her first virtual theater production, Abrazo de Navidad, this Saturday, December 12, starting at 8:00 p.m. by YouTube channel Theater Space.
Cordero, 21, who is a Drama student at the University of Puerto Rico, works in the proposal as an actress, director and producer. He joins the Puerto Rican actors living in the diaspora Alberto Fernández and Aniluli Muñecas for the materialization of the project.
Christmas Hug, written by Cordero and conceptualized together with Verónica Martínez, arises from the need to carry a message of love on these dates, through a magical hug, while generating a workshop for artists in times of pandemic.
The plot takes place in a field in Ponce and centers on the brothers Isabel, Lucía and Sebastián, who, although they live in different places, make it their mission to meet for Christmas and create new traditions, inspired by those that their grandmother taught them, but adapting them to today.
The 40-minute piece will feature subtitles in both English and Spanish for the benefit of the deaf community and non-Spanish speakers.
The Espazio Teatral channel, on the other hand, is focused on theatrical content and seeks to bring the viewer the experience of the stage through virtual mode, using the motto “Uniting borders on stage” as a spearhead.
It should be noted that Cordero has had the mentoring of Johanna Rosaly in his histrionic beginnings. She made her debut as an assistant director and stage manager with Gil René Rodríguez and as an actress in the play Rumores de Niel Simon, along with Alfonsina Molinari, Jorge Castro and René Monclova. Meanwhile, Muñecas, who lives in Miami, has participated in soap operas such as Silvana Sin Lana. Fernández on the other hand, who in turn composed the musical theme of the work, lives in San Diego and has worked in various musicals, the most recent being Rock of Ages and The Adams Family.
