Papilloma Party – interdisciplinary scientific research about HPV

Shangri-La Art Land Association today begins a complex series of activities dedicated to increasing public awareness of the health risks associated with the HPV virus, as well as the prevention opportunities, through the project​​​​ art Party Papilloma.

The initiator of the project – the director and the writer Alina Pietrareanu – brought together an interdisciplinary team of artists to create a multimedia exhibition about HPV, showing at the end of October, in the space /SAC Malmaison. The project includes, in addition to the exhibition, workshops in high schools, public debates and an online platform for communication and information. At the beginning of August, the project’s discussion and information platform was launched, which includes the special Facebook group – The HPV community.

“Because we know how important it is, when you find out you have HPV, to find safe information, but also a community that supports you and doesn’t judge you, we decided on this virtual meeting place to create where you can find the latest information. information about the virus and the vaccine, stories of other people who have been through it, art suggestions with the same theme, but last but not least, a safe conversation framework with others. If all goes well, we are also thinking about possible physical meetings with the community,” he says. Alina Pietrareanu.

As for the exhibition, it will be based on true stories, collect more than 30 testimonies from people who have HPV, and combine performance art with new technologies of body mapping with motion sensors, as well as 3D art.

Romania is first in Europe in the number of HPV victims, with 8.45 million women exposed to the risk of breast cancer, 84.7% caused by strains 16 and 18 of this virus. The statistics are even more worrying because there is already an HPV vaccine that neutralizes these strains and many others. And yet, the direct result of a lack of information leads to thousands of preventable deaths every year. Bringing together experts, artists and the public in a series of events, the project Party Papilloma designed to help raise awareness and eradicate sexually transmitted diseases, focusing on HPV, especially since this year the vaccine can be found for free or back to women.

Team Party Papilloma made up of Alina Pietrareanu – director and playwright, Cabiria Morgenstern– creative producer, Oana Rotaru, Bianca Marinescu and Anastasia Nane – performance, Andrew Novak – dancer, Sofia Zadar – the creator of the world of sound and music, date juice – 3d artist, Ciprian Făcăeru – Senograph new media.

Contemporary art must take responsibility for communicating about burning issues. Art can save lives in a very pragmatic way.
