Authorities in Cyprus are investigating the death of a 26-year-old man discovered at the bottom of an elevator shaft at a Kissonerga construction site. The incident occurred shortly before noon on a recent day, at a two-story building under construction near the beach.
Police have identified the victim as a 26-year-old Cypriot resident, though further details are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The man sustained injuries to his head and right palm. His body was transported to the morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police are reviewing security camera footage from the area, which reportedly captured the victim’s movements around 8 p.m. the previous evening. The Paphos TAE (Technical and Auxiliary equipment) is leading the investigation, focusing on the circumstances surrounding the fall and the ultimate cause of death.
Inspectors from the Labour Inspection Department also visited the site. preliminary observations indicate that safety measures, specifically the elevator shaft, may have been incomplete or inadequate. “At first glance it looks like the steps were in the building incomplete,” a source close to the investigation stated.
The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will be provided as they become available. This tragic incident highlights the importance of stringent safety protocols on construction sites worldwide, underscoring the need for thorough safety measures to prevent similar accidents.
The incident echoes concerns about workplace safety in the construction industry, both in Cyprus and internationally. The investigation will likely examine whether proper safety measures were in place and whether any negligence contributed to the accident.
