Pape Matar Sarr Leaves Field in Tears, In Danger of Missing African Championships

Pape Matar Sarr showed the way for Tottenham against Bournemouth.

Nevertheless, he left the field in tears – and is now in danger of missing the African championships.

– He is broken, says coach Ange Postecoglou.

Before the clock struck double digits, Sarr pulled up outside the penalty area.

The finish was well placed and out of reach for Neto in the away goal.

But soon after, the goalscorer sat down with obvious problems.

And when the 21-year-old realized he couldn’t go on, he pulled his shirt over his head and burst into tears.

– I don’t know how extensive it is yet. It’s the back, he’s broken, says Ange Postecoglou to the BBC.

Now the Senegalese risks missing the African championships, which start in two weeks.

Dejan Kulusevski followed the match from the stands. The Swede was suspended after picking up his fourth yellow of the season in the loss to Brighton.

After tonight’s victory, Tottenham can celebrate the New Year hanging on the absolute top. They are fifth, but only three points ahead of league leaders Liverpool (who have a game to spare).
