With a 4-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers in the first battle of the Europa League playoffs, PAOK is already in the League Stage of the Europa League. The rematch will take place next Thursday in Ireland and will essentially have a formal character.
The two teams met for the third time in their history as they were drawn in the same Europa League group in 2011-12 when PAOK prevailed 2-1 in Toumba and 3-1 in Ireland.
The “two-headed” entered the match impetuously and missed the first good chance with Constantelia in the 5th minute. In the 8th and 10th minutes, Pihls saved impressive shots by Thomas and Kenziora’s header, while in the 20th minute, Thomas’s shot went wide. Hor’s header in the 24th minute was the first good phase for the Irish.
In the 41st minute, Baba’s goal was disallowed for a foul at the beginning of the phase, but in the stoppage time of the half (45’+5′), Cleary headed the ball into his team’s net with a cross from Zifkovic and opened the scoring for PAOK (1-0).
In the 2nd half, PAOK started with an amazing goal by Tyson with a shot from a side position, which made it 2-0. In the 51st minute, the Brazilian missed a great chance to make it 3-0 and in the 52nd minute, Shamrock were down to 10 players due to Honohan’s second yellow card.
In the 67th minute, it was Konstantelia’s turn with a diagonal shot to make it 3-0 in awe. Despodov won a penalty in stoppage time. Koulierakis asked to do it but it was finally hit by Tsalof (92′) and the Irish goalkeeper saved. However, at 90’+6′, after a save by Pichels, Baba made the final 4-0.
Albanian referee Enea Giorgi “yellowed” the Honohans (twice), Grace.
