Panzeri, Goggia’s medicine
“Season over? Maybe not”
The doctor from Como was among the first to visit the Italian champion after the injury

Bad luck haunts the ski champion Sofia Goggia, who, due to a knee injury, will have to miss the upcoming World Championships in Cortina. An absurd accident in some ways, which occurred while she was returning to the valley, from a service track, with poor visibility.
To welcome the champion in the clinic in Milan, on her return from Garmisch, there was the doctor from Como Andrea Panzeri, president of the Medical Commission of Fisi, who knows Goggia’s right knee by heart: “We visited her, me and the Professor Herbert Schoenhuber, at the “Madonnina” in Milan. She underwent an MRI that we feared might show a third rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament, which had already been operated on twice. The diagnosis is instead the fracture, not important, of the tibial plateau, a situation that justified the pain. By force of things, even if it is not an insignificant injury, Sofia is forced to miss the World Cup ».
La Goggia – yesterday’s news – considering the forced stop of six weeks he will face, he will undergo the removal of the plaque on his arm, a “memory” of an old injury. But the season may not have ended on Sunday, as Dr. Panzeri points out: «He will not have an operation on his knee, it is a fracture that heals by itself. Let’s hope for a quick recovery: in this case he could come back, risking something, if he still has the chance to win the specialty World Cup, to save at least one of the titles. It is no mystery that, both in the World Cup and in the World Cup, Sofia was the number one favorite in her specialties ».
The regret increases if you think about the way in which bad luck has found a way to unleash, once again, on the blue ski: “In the race or in training an injury like this can happen, but get hurt like this, after waiting the cancellation of the race, getting off a service track, is definitely anger. Probably the poor visibility affected at that moment: with super-G skis she slipped into a pile of snow brought back ».
On a moral level, Panzeri found a disappointed but strong athlete: «I have known her for years, she is an athlete with character and motivated. Unfortunately getting hurt in a complicated season like this one, one week away from the World Cup at home, would demolish anyone. But he is already thinking about the future. For all the fans, for herself and for the Federation, this injury was not necessary, but sport is also made up of these accidents ».
