Author Panu Rajalan the summer evening ended in a dangerous situation. Rajala tells about what happened in his blog post and in an interview with Ilta-Sanomi.
Rajala writes in her blog that she was watching the Ilmari Kianto musical play in Sotkamo on Sunday. The evening continued with an opera singer Esa Ruuttusen at the cottage.
– Esa met me at Kajaani station, took me to his villa for dinner and straight to the black smoke sauna. An impressive experience. The wind was strong, and when we went briskly for a swim, the strong waves of Lake Nuasjärvi started to take me farther from the shore. I was shaking so much that I couldn’t properly paddle against the waves. Esak was already scared, but with his help I made it back to the platform and it didn’t get any worse, Rajala writes in her blog.
Rajala tells Ilta-Sanom that the strong wind started pulling Rajala on his back during the swimming trip.
– I freaked out in that situation. I’ve always made it to the beach, but suddenly I couldn’t, Rajala tells Ilta-Sanom.
Rajala says that Ruuttunen probably freaked out more in the situation. The singer helped his guest from the water to safety.
– He quickly came to the rescue, crawling strongly. He held my hand and led me to the shore along a route he knew, Rajala describes to Ilta-Sanom.
Panu Rajala, who turns 79 on Tuesday, is known, among other things, for his numerous biographical works and plays.
