According to Menno de Jong, a member of the OMT, it is theoretically possible that we will need new measures against new respiratory viruses this autumn. This is how a new trend appears to be emerging; immediately argue for a new lockdown and all kinds of other measures with every ‘threat’. If only one did this with the ever-growing mass immigration.
Due to the successful vaccination strategy, the last measures are slowly disappearing, if it continues like this, even the one and a half meter rule will disappear. But we’re hardly rid of corona or the next panic-monger of it BECAUSE OF calls out all that new measures needed. This time it is not even about corona measures, but about measures against new respiratory viruses. Well, of course we can go on like this forever.
In a conversation With NHNieuws, the virologist believes that it is quite possible that we will continue to live with corona-like measures: “Theoretically, it is possible that measures will be needed this autumn. So we really need to see how the other viruses are doing. We have to keep our finger on the pulse”
Ironically, the OMT member is more concerned about the emergence of new respiratory viruses than about the coronavirus: “The vaccines are actually quite effective against the Delta variant. If we really let go of everything in November as hoped, then a number of other respiratory viruses such as the flu and the RS virus will come around the corner. They can also spread again. The population’s immunity to these viruses has also declined. We may have a major flu epidemic, or one of the rs virus.”
OMT member wants more measures
Well, we’ve lived for decades without lockdowns and that went pretty well for our country, and the rest of the world. We really don’t have to resort to freedom-restricting measures for every outbreak of a seasonal flu. This was not necessary in the past and will not be necessary in the future. To imagine this at all, or think about it, is very reminiscent of exaggerated scaremongering.

Mass vaccination in the Netherlands has helped, we are slowly getting our freedoms back. We therefore seem to be ‘done’ with the coronacrisis. There really is zero reason to fantasize about future viruses right now.
