Pangea – Vad var Pangea?

Pangea

Pangea was a so-called supercontinent, which until about 200 million years ago collected almost all land areas on the planet.

As early as the beginning of the 20th century, the German meteorologist Alfred Wegener realized that Africa and South America had once been sitting together. He put forward the theory that it was the same with the other continents and gave the huge continent the name Pangea, which means “all land” in Greek.

Supercontinents gather the land mass

The theory was developed in 1988, when scientists R. Damian Nance, Thomas Worsley and Judith Moody showed that Pangea was neither the first nor the last time all the planet’s lands were collected.

Most of all land areas on the earth namely, collides at regular intervals in a global collision and gives rise to a supercontinent, which then breaks up and once again releases the continents.
