Nieder-Weisel (prw). Under the motto “Jewish Life in Germany Today,” the Johanniter Nieder-Weisel Spiritual Center in the Evangelical Deanery of Wetterau and the Women and Equal Opportunities Department of the Wetterau District invite you to the Spiritual Center, Johanniterstraße 7, on Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. for a panel discussion with a concert.
Admission is free.
Jewish life in Germany is diverse. It is often invisible in everyday life. When it is discussed, it is usually in connection with anti-Semitic statements or attacks.
But what does Jewish life in Germany really look like today? What is the attitude towards life of Jews in Germany? How different are their experiences?
Accompanied by music by Jewish composers, presented by the piano duo Bodnárová and Wolf, panel guests talk about their lives and the meaning of being Jewish for them. Aspects from the lives of the Jewish musicians are compared with the experiences of the interviewees.
The district and deanery are the organizers
»Against the background of current events in Israel and some reactions in German cities, the event is more relevant than ever. Jewish life must and should have a permanent place in Germany. This evening is intended to help make the unknown more understandable, to break down reservations and to integrate Jewish life as a noticeable and enriching part of our society,” says District Administrator Jan Weckler, who opens the event.
“We cannot be indifferent when Jewish life in Germany and the world is questioned,” says Volkhard Guth, dean of the Protestant deanery in Wetterau, which is co-organizer of the evening. The event is intended to provide an insight into the Jewish traditions, culture and everyday life of the panel guests: “We want to show that Jewish life has a permanent place in Germany,” said Guth.
