Pandora in the movie Avatar is too amazing, cinema screens are overwhelmed

Jakarta

Movie Avatar The way of water currently showing in theatres, using the HFR format. That said, this format makes the planet Pandora’s appearance in the film so striking that several cinema screens freeze due to overload.

HFR stands for High Frame Rate. The frame rate itself is the number of frames displayed in one second from a movie, TV show, or video game.

Quoted by Mashable, for about the last century, motion picture films have been projected at 24 frames per second. However, in recent years, some films have decided to experiment a bit with more sophisticated formats.

James Cameron, director of Avatar, in a series of interviews explained how Avatar The Way of Water has adopted the HFR. Some parts of the film will be shown at the usual 24fps and other parts at 48fps. However, this effect will not be felt in 2D format.

“It’s really about delivering the best 3D experience,” he said.

Cameron said the underwater scenery will be projected at 48fps. The same goes for flying scenery and other outdoor shots. However, he stressed that all of the underwater action is the most frequent place viewers can see the HFR.

A report in Japan said several theaters did not show the film Avatar The way of water because it is unable to serve HFR format.

As mentioned by Hypebeast, one of the theaters in Japan was forced to drop the frame rate from 48 FPS to 24 FPS in the middle of the movie so that the audience could enjoy it without interruption.

Cinema chains in Japan have also reported this issue, including United Cinemas Co., Toho Col, and Tokyu Corp. However, the network’s rep refused to explain the problems they were facing.

What is clear, theaters in Japan have reported a glitch when showing the sequel to the film Avatar. Many potential viewers did not get to see the film and eventually their ticket money was returned.

It is possible that all these cinemas are facing a similar problem, namely HFR 48fps support. This feature requires a newer projector or modification of an older projector.

Usually the cinemas have been informed about the format of the released films and can play them without any problems. The problem is that HFR is rarely used, so it has a greater potential for misunderstanding.

In the first week the film was shown Avatar The way of water it failed to reach the top of the bestseller list in Japan. The high school basketball-themed anime film The First Slam Dunk managed to surpass the viewership of Avatar 2.
