Pandemic has killed more than 55,000 people in Brazil

According to data from the Brazilian government, 697,526 infected patients are already recovering from the disease, with 521,487 patients still being monitored.

Geographically, the focus of the pandemic in the country is the state of São Paulo, which officially concentrates 258,508 contagions and 13,966 fatalities due to the disease caused by the new coronavirus.

For the third consecutive day, São Paulo reached a record number of confirmed daily cases, with the notification 9,921 infected in the last 24 hours.

However, the state government has indicated that the number of new cases is within the projections expected for this month.

In the list of other federal units most affected by the pandemic is Rio de Janeiro, which has 108,497 people diagnosed and 9,587 deaths, followed by Ceará, which counts 104,422 infected and 5,920 killed by the virus.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than 490,000 deaths and infected more than 9.68 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
