(Quebec) Quebec announced Friday the extension of the mandate given to the Commissioner of Health and Welfare, Joane Castonguay, responsible for shedding light on the management of the COVID-19 pandemic in living environments for seniors.

It was the Minister of Health and Social Services, Christian Dubé, who unveiled the news. The commissioner will be able to benefit from four additional months to carry out her mandate “to assess the performance of the health network, specifically for the management of the care and accommodation of the elderly in the context of COVID-19”, can we? read in the press release published in the middle of the afternoon.
This new deadline aims to allow Mme Castonguay and his team to complete the analysis of the information collected and write the final report to provide recommendations to the government.
This mandate was given to the Health Commissioner in August 2020. According to the initial timetable, the report was to be submitted to the government no later than 1is September 2021. The submission date is now postponed to December 30th.
In a written quote attributed to Minister Christian Dubé, the latter believes that the importance of the task requires “taking the time necessary to properly analyze what happened in order to have a relevant and in-depth portrait”.
To support her in her work, the Commissioner is surrounded by two experts, Anne Lemay, health economist, and Jean-Louis Denis, professor at the School of Public Health at the University of Montreal.
