Panasonic Temporarily Reduces Electric Car Battery Production in Response to Declining Demand

Japanese manufacturer Panasonic has announced that it is temporarily reducing production of electric car battery cells, as the manufacturer responds to lower demand for electric machines. Panasonic is known to be one of Tesla’s main cooperation partners and hints are being made that at least Tesla’s request is in order.

Panasonic informed that in September in Japan it reduced the production volumes of electric car batteries, while reducing the planned profit indicators of this division by 15%. Much has been said about Volkswagen’s problems with demand for electric cars, but these announcements underline the global trend of declining demand.

The manufacturer says that demand has been reduced to achieve “an appropriate level of stockpiling in response to rapidly declining demand.” So far, the changes have only affected the Panasonic factory in Japan, but production elsewhere continues as before. Of course, the company’s representatives did not reveal which of their customers are to blame for the falling demand.
