Panasonic has been producing rugged Toughbook laptops for several years, designed for specialists who work in environments that are aggressive according to certain criteria. This time, the manufacturer presented the Toughbook 55 Mk3 modular laptop, which is equipped with 13th generation Intel Core processors and a durable case that can protect the device from external influences.
The Toughbook 55 Mk3 comes with a 14-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels or 1920×1080 pixels. In the second case, we are talking about a panel with support for touch control, a maximum brightness of 1000 cd/m², as well as anti-glare and anti-reflective coatings.
The laptop body is made of magnesium alloy and is equipped with a handle for easy transportation. The keyboard is protected from moisture, and the display is framed by a slightly protruding frame so that the screen will not be damaged if dropped. The laptop is not afraid of falls from a meter height (MIL-STD-810H), as well as shocks, vibrations, low temperatures and sudden temperature changes. Protection against moisture and dust complies with the IP53 standard. An interesting feature is that there is a heater located next to the SSD, which helps the device operate at low ambient temperatures.
As for the hardware, the laptop will be available in two configurations with 13th generation Intel Core processors: Core i5-1345U and Core-i7-1370P. The design provides two slots for installing RAM modules (DDR4-3200 GHz with a capacity of 16 to 64 GB), as well as an NVMe solid-state drive from 512 GB to 2 TB. The Toughbook 55 Mk 3 features a loud Waves MaxxAudio speaker system, as well as a pair of noise-canceling microphones.
The new product boasts a Thunderbolt 4 interface with data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gbps, as well as Display Port, Power Delivery, Gigabit Ethernet. Wireless connectivity is provided by Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 modules, and there is a built-in 4G modem. The ability to connect additional xPAK modules is supported. Three expansion slots are available to connect external modules such as a fingerprint reader, barcode reader, smart card reader, optical drives, additional storage, or a second battery. The latter option will increase battery life from 10 to 20 hours.
The Core i7-powered Toughbook 55 Mk3 will go on sale in North America soon, with a second model launching in February next year. The cost of the laptop was not announced.
