Panama will recognize three doses as the complete vaccination scheme against covid-19

In Panama, the two doses of Johnson & Johnson will be recognized as a complete vaccination scheme, as well as the complete heterologous vaccination scheme, that is, a combination of different vaccines authorized by the World Health Organization (WHO), Food and Drugs (FDA), European Medicines Agency (EMA) once all three doses are completed.

A person is considered fully immunized once 14 days or more have elapsed, after completing the vaccination schedule according to the vaccine applied.

Through Executive Decree 64 of August 28, 2020, the Minsa declares and takes measures against the appearance and risk of spreading the new covid-19 and establishes all ordinary and extraordinary measures.

Panama, through Executive Decree 99 of February 15, 2021, accepted the WHO recommendations for vaccines against covid-19, as a mechanism to facilitate availability and use throughout the national territory, for reasons of the health emergency.

The Government of Panama approved to apply a third dose of vaccine against covid-19 to immunosuppressed patients starting 28 days after the second dose and to apply booster doses against covid-19 starting three months after the second dose to the population 16 years of age and older, in authorized centers throughout the national territory.

The report of the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) reveals that since January 2021, when Operation PanavaC-19 began, to date, 6,442,821 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 have been applied. Of this total, 3,130,524 have been placed in the first dose; 2,822,517 in second dose; 481,987 booster doses and 7,793 third doses to immunosuppressed patients.

The target population, which is now 5 years and older, includes a total of 3,969,630 people. With the first dose he has been immunized to 78.9% and with two doses to 71.1%.
