The Ministry of Health of Panama declared a health alert in the regions of Panama Metro, Colon, Panama East and Panama West, due to the increase in dengue cases, accumulating 8,774 confirmed cases until epidemiological week #29.

The measure focuses on reinforcing the elimination of breeding sites for the Aedes aegypti mosquito, through fogging and other control actions.

To date, Panamanian health authorities have reported that they have already recorded 20 deaths from dengue so far in 2024, with the regions that have recorded deaths being: Colón 7, Chiriquí 4, Panama Metro 4, Panama East 2, Coclé 1, Panama West 1 and the Guna Yala region 1, where the most affected group are people between 10 and 34 years old.

Panama’s Health Minister Fernando Boyd Galindo said that although they have seen a slight decrease in cases in recent weeks, the situation remains critical. “In Las Garzas, we have seen a reduction in cases thanks to our interventions, but we remain on alert,” he said.
