Panama registers 84 deaths from influenza and 92 from covid-19 this year

In the weekly epidemiological report, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported that so far in 2024, 84 deaths have been confirmed due to influenza and 92 due to covid-19.

According to Minsa data, of the 84 people died95.2% did not have a flu vaccine. In addition, all of them had risk factors, including age, metabolic and cardiovascular factors, malnutrition, immunosuppression and respiratory disease.

The regions where these deaths due to influenza have been confirmed are: Chiriquí with 18, Panamá Oeste with 16, Panamá Metro with 12, Ngäbe Buglé region with 6, Coclé with 5, Panamá Norte with 5, San Miguelito with 4, Veraguas with 4, Bocas del Toro with 5, Los Santos with 3, Herrera with 2, Panama Este with 2, Colón with 1 and Darién with 1.

Regarding covid-19, the report records that the average weekly positivity is 2% after confirming 13 new cases.

In the last week, the Minsa has not reported deaths due to covid-19, which keeps the accumulated figure for 2024 at 92. Since the pandemic arrived in the country in 2020, 8,773 have accumulated nationwide.

Other diseases

Regarding other diseases, the authorities detail that to date 20,581 cases of dengue have been registered nationwide and 38 deaths.

In addition, it is reported that the Public Health surveillance system has confirmed 79 cases of screwworm in humans so far in 2024. The positive cases are in an age range of 1 year to 95 years.
