Panama registered 2,117 new infections of covid-19 in the last 24 hours and reported no deaths, so it maintains a cumulative of 8,189 deaths and a lethality of 1.1%.
The Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), reported that in Panama there are 782,265 confirmed accumulated cases of covid-19 to date, of which 2,117 are new positive cases.
In the country there are 764,407 people recovered from the disease, of which 387 are added as newly recovered. 11,503 new tests were applied for a positivity of 18.4%.
Active cases in the country reach the figure of 9,669; 9,544 of them are in home isolation and 125 hospitalized. Those in isolation are divided into 9,524 at home and 20 in hotels. Those hospitalized add up to 109 in the Ward and 16 in the ICU.
The districts with the highest incidence of cases are: Juan Díaz (77); San Francisco (72), Chitre (65) and Rufina Alfaro (63).
They reiterate the call to maintain biosecurity measures in the face of an increase in cases
Faced with the increase in cases, Lourdes Moreno, national head of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reiterated the call to the population that, given the increase in cases of covid-19, they must maintain the proper use of the mask, hand washing and physical distancing.
The daily case numbers continue to rise with 2,117 new cases for today and a positivity rate of 18.4%, higher than 17.9% yesterday Wednesday.
Dr. Moreno indicated that, when entering open spaces, meaning where there are no walls or ceilings, the mask should be used in the event that the physical distance of one meter between people cannot be kept.
The galena asked the population to get vaccinated to complete the vaccination scheme against Covid-19, since the vaccine reduces the person from having serious symptoms that warrant hospitalization.
He specified that the system has a guaranteed installed capacity, but warned that the country cannot relax or lower its guard against the virus while calling on all people who work in customer service or services to the public must maintain everything moment the mask placed.
He stressed that according to reports from the Gorgas Commemorative Institute for Health Studies (ICGES) in Panama, the lineages of the Omicron variant circulate, such as BA.1 and BA.2. The first, BA.1, marks with a greater prevalence than BA.2, which remains in 26% of confirmed cases.
He pointed out that other variants of the coronavirus are not yet circulating in Panama according to the results of the ICGES.
Vaccination report
On the other hand, the Expanded Program on Immunization (PAI) revealed that 8,080,762 doses of vaccines against covid-19 have been applied in the country, of which, 3,466,298 have been placed in the first dose; 3,079,475 in the second dose and 1,518,554 in the booster dose and 3,779 in the second booster dose.
The total includes 405,428 pediatric doses placed in children between 5 and 11 years of age.
The coverage indicates that of the target population, 87.3% have a first dose; 77.6% with a second dose and 48.4% with a booster dose that is applied to the population from 16 years of age.
