The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MICI) of Panama today urged the use of the digital platform of the Commercial Intelligence Office (Intelcom) to encourage exchange with other countries.
As explained by the head of that portfolio, Julio Moltó, the isthmus maintains treaties or trade agreements with 80 nations, whose markets are of interest.
The electronic tool, he said, makes it possible to identify new business opportunities, since it not only analyzes these agreements, but also other strategic markets for access and export.
The official highlighted that the MICI will support the sector in the evaluation and compliance with requirements, and together with the Panamanian foreign service, will ensure that these do not become obstacles to exports, guaranteeing compliance with trade agreements.
Intelcom presents information from 80 countries, with Malaysia and Ukraine being the most recent to be incorporated, he said.
The digital platform, which began in December 2019 with data on the United States and Israel, evolved and incorporated improvements such as a detailed summary of import requirements by subheading for each market, with a table that classifies these requirements according to the Conference of Nations United Nations on Trade and Development and references on Non-Tariff Measures, according to experts.
Country profiles on the platform were also updated following the World Trade Organization review.
MICI reports specify that the relevance of this tool for the export sector is reflected in the increase in visits in 2024, which totaled 24,190 until October 18.
