Surprise. The Panamanian Football Federation (Fepafut) announced that the Argentine Americo “Tolo” Gallego and its coaching staff will no longer be in charge of Panama’s senior team because of the negative economic impact that the coronavirus pandemic crisis is causing.
In addition, this decision affects the other technical bodies of the Panamanian teams, led by Julio Dely Valdés and Jorge Dely Valdés (youth teams), Kenneth Zseremeta (women’s team), Raiza Gutiérrez (women’s under-20 team) and Porfirio Rebolledo (team futsal).
Fepafut noted that both parties are negotiating the terms of the termination of the contract, after the decision made in an extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee this Tuesday, April 14, 2020.
Gallego, who as a player formed in the team that conquered the World Cup in 1978, led La Roja in six games. He won two (against Bermuda and Guatemala), lost three (one against Bermuda and two against Mexico) and tied without goals with Nicaragua.
Gallego took office in July 2019 and led his last match in March, a 0-2 victory in a friendly match with Guatemala.

That is why, with great responsibility, the Executive Committee of the Panamanian Football Federation, after its extraordinary meeting on Tuesday April 14, 2020, has approved the termination of all contracts for the technical bodies of its national teams:
– Male senior team: The conditions for terminating the contract are being negotiated with Mr. Américo Rubén Gallego and his Technical Staff.
– Male youth teams: use will be made of the termination clause of the contracts of Julio César Dely Valdés, Jorge Dely Valdés and their respective technical bodies.
– Women’s selections: the termination clause of the contracts of Kenneth Zseremeta, Raiza Gutiérrez and their respective technical bodies will be used.
– Futsal Selection: the termination clause of Porfirio Rebolledo and his coaching staff will be used.
