Panama maintains a cumulative of 8,178 deaths from covid-19 and 768,199 cases

Panama City, Apr 14 (EFE) .- Panama added this Thursday 364 new cases of covid-19 and no deaths from the disease, to reach 768,199 confirmed infections and maintain a cumulative of 8,178 deaths in two years of pandemic, reported the Ministry of Health (Minsa).

The daily report the Minsa indicates that there are 10 patients who are hospitalized for the coronavirus in Intensive Care Units (ICU) and 75 in the general ward, while 2,553 remain isolated at home and 11 in hotels.

The patients who have healed add up to 757,373 to date since March 9, 2020, when the first case occurred in Panama, where covid has a fatality rate of 1.1%, which remains one of the lowest in Latin America.

On this day, 5,767 tests were applied to detect cases of covid, which showed a positivity of 6.3%.

Regarding the progress of the vaccination process, the report of the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI) of the Minsa details that since January 20, 2021, 7,996,518 doses of vaccines against the coronavirus have been administered in Panama.

Immunization coverage in the target population, from 5 years of age, is at least 87.1% with the first dose; 76.8% second dose, and 47.1% with booster dose.

In the population of children between 5 and 11 years of age, 374,631 pediatric doses have been administered, of which 263,009 (51%) are the first dose and 111,527 (42.4%) the second dose, according to EPI figures.

Vaccination against covid-19 will be suspended on the occasion of Easter, while the testing centers in the capital and the outskirts worked until this Thursday, and will be closed on Friday, to reopen on Saturday and Sunday.

The Minsa urged the population to continue applying biosecurity measures and self-care against covid-19 during Holy Week, especially during mass activities. EFE
