Panama concludes diplomatic visit in Washington DC

On August 29, Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha Vásquez and Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Ruiz Hernández concluded their diplomatic visit to Washington DC, United States, after meeting with senior officials from the State Department.

The mission’s agenda included meetings with Brian Nichols, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs; Jonathan Fritz, Chief of Staff to the Under Secretary for Economic Growth, Energy, and Environment; and Michele Sison, Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs.

Panamanian senior diplomatic officials will also meet at the U.S. National Security Council with Dan Erikson, Director of Western Hemisphere Affairs, and Russell Porter, Director for Central America.

Minister Martínez-Acha Vásquez and Vice Minister Ruiz Hernández will return to the country next Sunday, September 1.

During the meeting with Brian Nichols, the Panamanian diplomats discussed the following topics:

Situation in Venezuela.

Recent tripartite meeting on the border with Colombia.

Panama was praised for its leadership in the region, especially on the issue of Venezuela.

The relationship is expected to continue to grow and be fruitful.

Panama is an important ally and partner for the United States.
