(CNN Español) — The president of Panama, Laurentino Cortizo, reported that this Sunday night 60,000 doses of vaccines from Pfizer against covid-19 to apply to children between five and 11 years old.
The president’s announcement was made during his speech for the installation of a new session in the Assembly of Panama.
Cortizo explained that, according to information from Pfizer Belgium and Customs, Panama should receive at 11:15 pm, local time, this first batch of doses of pediatric vaccines.

He added that from January 22, 2021 to date “88.2% of those who died from covid-19 did not have the complete vaccination scheme, that is, the two doses had not been applied.”
In the last week of the year, Panama experienced a rebound in cases that coincides with the discovery of infections with the omicron variant of the new coronavirus.
According to the most recent epidemiological report from the Ministry of Health of Panama, the country has 497,808 confirmed cases of covid-19, of which 7,430 died.
There are 14,363 active cases, of which 188 are hospitalized and 35 in intensive care.
