Panama advocates joining the UN Security Council – 2024-03-03 19:38:14

Panamanian Foreign Minister Janaina Tewaney participates in the Diplomatic Forum in Antalya, Türkiye, which concludes today, with a view to gathering support to obtain a seat on the United Nations Security Council.

According to reports from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the isthmus, with this proposal the diplomat held bilateral meetings with her Gambian counterparts, Mamadou Tangara; and from Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov.

The local chancellery launched a campaign to integrate this body based on the intention of strengthening the Charter of the United Nations, and strengthening multilateralism as a tool to solve the most pressing problems and challenges of the 21st century.

At the forum, Tewaney presented the region’s progress in the matter and highlighted the fundamental role that the canal country plays in this transformation process, according to the official report.

The head of Isthmus diplomacy also met with the vice-chancellors of Venezuela, Coromoto Godoy; and from Colombia, Francisco Coy, with whom she also addressed immigration issues.

The Antalya Forum concludes this Sunday with the debate on issues such as Women in Diplomacy, Climate Change, Artificial Intelligence and Diplomacy: Managing New Frontiers and Our Common Future: Youth for the World.

In addition, peace, regional cooperation and the role of culture and education will be discussed, and a statement to the media is expected from Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan about the results of the meeting.
