PAN asks the INE not to approve Javier Corral’s entry into the Senate

Mexico City. The National Action Party (PAN) has asked the National Electoral Institute (INE) not to approve Javier Corral’s entry into the Senate based on the principle of proportional representation, considering that he is not eligible “because he is a fugitive from justice.”

This request was made during the session of the Committee on Prerogatives and Political Parties that took place tonight, and in which the drafts for the allocation of seats and plurinominal seats for the Congress of the Union were unanimously approved.

Although it will still have to be discussed and approved by the institute’s General Council next Friday, as it was not on the agenda of this committee.

Last week, the Chihuahua prosecutor’s office tried to arrest him, but did not carry out the action, after the Mexico City prosecutor’s office indicated that they did not have authority in the country’s capital.

Corral is ranked 9th on the list of Morena’s multi-seat senators, which was approved by this commission, so he would occupy a seat in the next legislature, but the INE will have to analyze the issue of whether or not he is eligible because he was identified as a fugitive from justice.

This afternoon, the PAN filed a complaint with the INE against Corral to request that the councilors declare his “ineligibility” as a pluri senator, for not meeting the established requirements, since the suspension of political rights provided for in article 38, section V, of the Constitution is updated. The above, “because there is an arrest warrant in force against him.”
