“Pamplona is a great place to showcase our art and culture”

The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art Foundation brings its show to the Navarra Arena on September 21 How Andalusian Horses DanceJaime Serrano Campos, head of the Technical Department, explains in this interview what this unique exhibition in the world consists of.

What will the public who goes to see the show find?

The public who come to see us will be able to witness a show based on our culture and our traditions. Where the horse is the greatest exponent; presenting numbers based on our extensive equestrian culture, both classical and cowboy, and all adorned with 18th century costumes and purely Spanish music. It will be an exhibition with a festive atmosphere that reflects our rich and valuable tradition associated with our Andalusian horses, which are undoubtedly a cultural vehicle and equestrian heritage of Andalusia.

How many choreographies are there?

The exhibition we are presenting in Pamplona will consist of 6 choreographies, in which we will show a resemblance of the official exhibitions we carry out at the Royal School. To start the exhibition, a pairing is presented in the vaquera style, which simulates the work of the men of the countryside with the cattle and the fighting bull.

We will continue with numbers such as Aires a caballo and Fantasia, where exercises of gathering and haute école are performed with harmony and synchronization: passage, piaffer, supports, changes of foot.

Later, the number of exercises in hand will be carried out, in these exercises the horse lets itself be led “by hand”; from concentration and piaffer, exercises of ancient horsemanship are performed such as levadas, posadas and caprioles.

In Long Reins, the horse is led by its rider on foot, performing high school exercises at their maximum difficulty.

And finally, we present the carousel in which all the components of the show participate, performing exercises of academic horsemanship with harmony and symmetry.

Do Andalusian horses dance differently than any other?

Our Andalusian horses are horses that are completely different from other breeds. Our horses stand out for their collected gaits, piaffer, passage, and Spanish walk; they also have a natural ability to perform elevated movements. They also differ from other horses for their elegance in the execution of their movements, as well as for having a noble character and temperament, as well as a big heart.

Is this show “How Andalusian Horses Dance” the greatest example of the work carried out at the School?

Yes, we can say that we show the result of the laborious and constant work that we do every day and our desire and commitment is to show the public our horses, they are with their reasoned and academic riding, our main bastion.

What do you want to convey with this show?

We seek to convey the elegance, skill and strength of our horses, as well as a combination of art, culture and Andalusian tradition.

Will Pamplona be a good place for this exhibition?

There is no doubt that Pamplona will be a great place to show us its connection and extensive culture with the world of bulls and horses, the festive and joyful atmosphere of its people, the great professionals of this land who are related to the equestrian world, are important factors that can favor the success of this representation.
