Palworld’s Player Numbers Plummet: What’s Next for the Game?

It was quite understandable that it was not possible to assume that the January hit Palworld would continue to increase the number of players on Steam day after day and the records for the number of concurrent players would fall every other day. The inevitable happened, and after two and a half months of being released in early access on this platform, the game lost 97% of its players, which sounds really scary. After conquering and later maintaining the 2 million player mark, their number is now roughly between 60,000 and 70,000 concurrent players. It should be noted, however, that the game is still part of the Game Pass subscription, making its success on Steam all the more interesting, and after all, it’s nothing we haven’t seen a few times before.

Despite the large drop in players, Palworld definitely cannot be written off. The declining numbers of new players and the waning interest of those already playing were noted and commented on by the developers from the Pocketpair studio in February, less than a month after the release, but at the same time they decided not to rush anything and continued to work on fixes and planned new content that they prepared as part of early access. A few days later, they boasted of passing the milestone of 25 million players, with 15 million on Steam and 10 million on Xbox, but gradually the hype around the unexpected success began to die down. As can be noticed in the graphs and statistics of the game on SteamDBfrom mid-February, when the game still reached around 500,000 concurrently playing players, this number began to decrease, while at the beginning of March it was already possible jen by approximately 200,000 players. In the course of the month, however, the number reached the current 60,000 to 70,000.

It is quite possible that Palworld will not reach such numbers later in the full version, no one can deny its famous start and success anyway. As already mentioned, the game has so far only been released in early access, meaning that in the future, players will still have a lot of news and updates that can lure them back. In addition, it is worth noting that Palworld is not a live service game, so there is currently nothing forcing players to log in daily so that they do not miss anything. The numbers themselves seem overwhelming, but that was to be expected. And if we ignore yesterday’s April Fool’s prank with a dating simulator, the developers from Pocketpair will, for example, expand the building options in the upcoming update.
