Palworld is more or less a Pokémon with survival and weapons

When the Pokémon anime began, Episode 35 was banned from international broadcasting due to the presence of characters carrying realistic weapons multiple times. Which begs the question: what would happen if you put firearms in the Pokémon world?

Well, after the premiere of “Palworld” at the INDIE Live Expo, I’m here to tell you that your dreams have come true.

The team behind Palworld, Pocket Pair, had previously released another early access game ‘Craftopia’ in late 2020 that was mixed with positive reviews.

In just 10 seconds into the trailer, the game preview goes from 0 to 100 very quickly, unlocking when a Pokémon Genshin Impact / Breath of the Wild clone suddenly flies through the air and drops a clip on a nearby enemy. We then return to a serene adventure role-playing game, touring swaths of the world, as well as seeing villages and towns built as part of the game, before being thrown once again into an all-out attack from a third-person perspective. A monster that bounces from enemy to enemy in the middle of fire.

In awe, you can’t help but watch more of the game’s mechanics unfold – a Digimon-style monster fusion element? Do you sit around a campfire with your friends? Oh, here, one of the creatures comes up to you and starts shooting too. Just grab a little sheep monster and use it as a cute mystical shield before it’s carelessly tossed aside. This is not your standard to capture them all eloquently, this is war!

In fact, the deeper you dig into the trailer, the more you realize that there are a lot of questions to answer for games of the same genre. Small creatures are forced to do hard labor to make offensive weapons. Use the rocket launcher to drop the cathedral on your enemies! Throwing an electric guy into a lake to shock other creatures to the surface! What I described doesn’t do the trailer justice, you really need to see for yourself.

The creators of Palworld describe it as a “next-generation open-world survival creation game,” featuring the game’s Steam page. But the game prides itself on your abilities to poach rare creatures for money, force them into forced labor, and even suggest “Don’t worry, labor laws won’t apply to friends.” The page even hints at using your friends as a food source… Do you have to try them all?

Palworld has a tentative release date of 2022. You can get more information about it and add it to your wish list here.
