Palworld: How a Game Without Budget Led to 5 Million Copies Sold

Jakarta

The new game from Pocketpair seems to have succeeded in making their wallets overflow. The reason is, Palworld managed to sell five million copies in just three days.

But there is interesting information behind its glory, regarding how the CEO, Takura Mizobe, said that he did not budget funds for the development of this game. According to him, funding planning is not commensurate with the money spent.

So, initially they wanted to work on it Palworld for one year, that includes the time of its release. This is because Mizobe has no desire to do the same thing for years.

How could it not be, it seemed he was aware of the capacity of his employees, which at that time only had ten people. Therefore, developing games for a long time was not on his mind.

Then finally, with the minimum number of employees, Mizobe created a team of four people. Basically, the goal at that time was to make a game quickly, release it, and see gamers’ reactions to the studio’s work.

Only in the end the game wasn’t finished. Of course, it also cannot be released within the previously planned time period. Even Mizobe claims that the game is bad.

“(I)t became clear that to make the game we envisioned a reality, there wasn’t enough manpower, money or development time,” he said.

That’s when he decided that there really wasn’t any point in budgeting for the game. According to him, the budget limit starts from zero, which means there is no longer any money in the bank account. Then he said, if it’s zero, then borrow the money.

“Then do you need to organize your budget?” he asked.

Yes, Mizobe said he would borrow the money and continue what he had started. He also hired other people, then built Palworld as you wish.

In the three years since its decision, Pocketpair has increased its number of employees. There are at least 40 workers who help with development Palworld.

So how much does the company spend to present it? Palworld? According to his confession, this game cost 1 billion yen or around Rp. 105.8 billion, as reported by detikINET from Insider Gaming, Tuesday (23/1/2024).

But it looks like the money spent was not in vain, if you look at sales during the first three days since launch. A little information, that Palworld is now having a discount at Steam and is priced at IDR 221,399.

Meanwhile, when referring to the proprietary gaming platform Microsoftthat is Xbox, the price is USD 29.99 or around Rp. 469,193. But this game can also be enjoyed via Game Pass.

So, gamers, please calculate for yourself, approximately how much gross income the developer gets.
