In recent years, the work on the game Palworld has created a lot of buzz. The experience often described as “Pokémon with firearms” has now finally arrived in “Early Access” on Steam, and hordes of fans have flocked.
At the time of writing, Palworld is actually the most popular game on Steam, with more concurrently logged-in players than Counter-Strike 2. According to the website SteamDB the new launch reached a peak of 855,706 concurrent players, admittedly a small notch away from what CS2 managed in the last 24 hours.
As far as sales figures are concerned, things have also gone well. Developer Pocketpair was able to report on Saturday that Palworld sold over two million copies in its first 24 hours. Unsurprisingly, it has sent the game straight to the top of Steam’s bestseller list, ahead of Steam Deck, CS2 and EA Sports FC 24.

Admittedly, the violent surge has not only been positive. Players have reported extensive server problems and difficulties logging in. In a message on X (formerly Twitter) the developer explained that this was due to a problem with Epic, which is supposed to be solved now.
The game has also had to endure criticism from fans of Pokémon. These have accused Palworld to just copy monster design from the popular Nintendo series.
