Palma taxi drivers threaten mobilizations at the airport by pirates
The presence of pirates at the Palma airport has once again put taxi drivers on the warpath, who threaten to start mobilizations at the facilities if the Ministry of Mobility does not act.
Taxi drivers have even sent images to the department of transport pirates illegally capturing customers.
It is about several vans that act with total impunity.
The outrage of the sector is understandable when at the moment a taxi can spend three to four hours queuing at the airport to get a client.
The anger that these events are causing among Palma taxi drivers has led the aforementioned employer’s association to denounce what is happening to the Ministry, with the sending of a photo and the warning that the situation may end up leading to a protest by the sector in the facilities of the Son Sant Joan Airport.
At this time, the Palma City Council has scheduled shifts in the taxi sector due to the lack of existing work, so that each vehicle can only be operational for three out of every five days, and only for half a day, which is equivalent to it cannot work more than 30% of the fleet at the same time.
In this regard, it is recalled that a year ago 100% of taxi drivers were working even without payroll due to the large amount of tourist activity that occurred on those dates.
To this is added that during the weeks of confinement, taxis, being a public service, had to keep 20% of the fleet operating in shifts when there was hardly any demand for their services.
