Offenbach, Germany – The city center of Offenbach is getting a tropical upgrade with the addition of palm trees. The public utility company has set up 50 palm trees in various locations throughout the pedestrian zone, creating a unique and exotic atmosphere.
The idea for the palm trees came from Martin Wilhelm, the city treasurer and head of department responsible for the city service. Wilhelm had noticed Mediterranean planting in other German cities and wanted to bring a similar vibe to Offenbach.
“We want to increase the quality of stay and attractiveness of the pedestrian zone,” says Wilhelm. The palm trees are expected to enhance the overall ambiance and make the city center more appealing to residents and visitors alike.
The palm trees were strategically placed in the Stadthof, on Frankfurter Strasse, Herrnstrasse, Grosse Marktstrasse, and on Aliceplatz. Despite their size, the trees were positioned in a way that ensures escape routes remain free and access is still possible.
The palm trees will remain in place throughout the summer until October, after which they will be picked up by the commissioned service provider. The success of the initiative will be evaluated during the winter months to determine if it should be continued in the future.
The palm trees have already made their debut during the Offenbach Week, and they will also be a prominent feature at the upcoming Beach Club event in the city center, starting on Thursday, July 6th.

How will the success of the palm trees’ presence be evaluated and what will be done with them after October
Offenbach, Germany – The city center of Offenbach is undergoing a transformation with the introduction of palm trees. In an effort to enhance the overall ambiance and attractiveness of the pedestrian zone, the public utility company has strategically placed 50 palm trees in various locations.
The idea for this tropical upgrade came from Martin Wilhelm, the city treasurer and head of the department responsible for the city’s services. Inspired by Mediterranean planting in other German cities, Wilhelm wanted to bring a similar vibe to Offenbach. He believes that the addition of palm trees will not only increase the quality of stay but also make the city center more appealing to both residents and visitors.
To ensure the palm trees’ placement does not obstruct or hinder accessibility, they have been strategically positioned at the Stadthof, on Frankfurter Strasse, Herrnstrasse, Grosse Marktstrasse, and on Aliceplatz. Despite their size, these trees have been carefully arranged to maintain clear escape routes and easy access.
The palm trees will be a temporary addition to the city center, remaining in place throughout the summer until October. After this period, they will be collected by the commissioned service provider. The success of this initiative will be evaluated during the winter months to determine whether it should be continued in the future.
