According to the new church calendar, on April 28 in Ukraine they celebrate the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, that is, Palm Sunday. This holiday marks the big holiday before Easter. This holiday is based on the biblical story of Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey from Bethagia. Then the disciples of Jesus covered the path of the Messiah with palm branches, thus welcoming him. This tradition still exists in Jerusalem, there is even “Palm Street”, which is named after this event. In Ukraine this holiday is called Palm Sunday. Palm branches were replaced with birch branches. The sacred birch is highly respected. Blessed branches should be kept for a whole year, and then burned, and the ashes used in church rites on Ash Wednesday.
